A collection of resources to inspire a natural, balance and simple living.
Sessions last 60 mins and are 15BD/hr for grades 1-5 and 18BD/hr for grades 6-8. They usually take place on Sun-Wed at 3:30pm. (Some home visit sessions are +BD1 depending on location). Rates for adults depend on the material and use Khan Academy problems.
If you have any questions on this process, feel free to email me on firstname.lastname@example.org. My academic background includes Math IB HL and a BA in Applied Math at Harvard (2011), but I learn most through teaching.
Math is a practice, like anything else. Those who cook start doing it intuitively as they're cooking - knowing what proportions of ingredients to use. Those who drive start doing it intuitively as they drive - knowing at what angle to turn the steering wheel to drive smoothly. Those who dance do it as they sync with the rhythms of music. We all do it when we're checking the time to make sure we're on time somewhere or counting money as we pay for something in cash.
I think of math skills as the skills that allow us to solve problems we face in the world, so that we can live with ease. The more we practice math, the more confidence we have with solving more complex everyday problems creatively, like which groceries to buy if we want to eat healthy food while reducing food waste and stay within a budget. With time, our brain becomes more comfortable when facing complex problems. With practice, we become confident in our ability to solve problems, so we're more likely to try new things and feel comfortable going out in the world. I call this mental resilience, and have seen how much it has supported me in growing and pursuing goals.
During sessions, we practice math just as someone would practice basketball. We decide on a starting point of doable problems, and build confidence this way. If a problem is too challenging, we simplify it together until it feels doable. The learning that happens in this process develops our minds so that those types of problems become familiar, and solving them feels intuitive.
Conscious Living is a community platform created to inspire natural, balanced and simple living in Bahrain founded by Mashael Fakhro, an environmentalist and coach with a love for living a lifestyle that is in harmony with nature and drawing inspiration from its beauty and resilience.
The Conscious Living platform began as a listing of local resources such as plant-based cafes, complimentary healing services, public parks and spaces, natural skincare and self care, and resources to enable an environmentally conscious lifestyle at consciouslivingbh.com.
It has grown to include a store for inspirational resources such as zines and prints, a workshop series and coaching to facilitate people's lifestyle changes, and community circles, events and experiences. To be informed of upcoming community events please click here.
